Tamworth New Hampshire, July 5th

Tamworth New Hampshire and finally made it to hook up with the curling groupies, yep quite a number of them curl. Was invited during curling season to spend the 4th of July week here at George’s family summer home…use to be summer home, but for being 3 years old, was updated for all seasons. What a beautiful place and view, and this home looks very much like the original which was built in 1890 and burnt down a few years ago…a long story, but the story involves a psychotic ex – what some people will do to get even. Anyway, saw the multi media presentation of the original, the family involved and the rebuilding and it’s one of those things that more people should document…there’s a lot of history out there, both good and bad to remember…and just try to learn from the bad.

Woke up to sunshine so the good weather is still following me which is a bonus on a trip like this. Did take my time since I knew the trip was a short one and ended up in New Hampshire almost right out the parking lot from the Super8. Was a beautiful drive along highway 9 which would have been very much what you would have seen thru Vermont had it not been wet and dark, but maybe some other day I’ll have to make that trip. Took the scenic route so wasn’t too worried about rushing to get here, but the east coast is just as beautiful a drive as much of the other country. A lot of this riding reminds me of northern Wisconsin or Minnesota with the lakes and trees, but the streams along the road are more like the mountain roads out west…well, guess these are mountains, just the East Coast Mountains. Stopped at Johnson’s along the way to have lunch and had an interesting talk with the hostess who lives here, but went to school in Wisconsin, but after talking with her for 10 minutes and no waitress showing up, decided it was time to move on. Eventually found a bbq shop that had a number of bikes parked out front so it can’t be that bad if more of my kind are eating there…you know the biker type. Just 5 miles from the house so had a short ways to go and what a view driving up to the house, not only the house but the view of the mountains from the house. I can see why someone would build a place like this on top of this hill. Well, once I got here got settled in and it was time to go for the traditional ice cream which, I can always use dessert. Talked a bit about my travels and everyone said I need to ride the Kancamagus trail, ok, now is as good a time as any so might as well get that under my belt for the day. Another beautiful country, mountain, river, whatever you want to call it road and there were some wonderful sites along the way, especially the area which reminded me of Big Falls by Chippewa Falls, not only was the naturally beauty there, but quite a few hotties in there nice skimpy bathing suits…well, didn’t get that great a picture, but for my eyes only. Made it over the Kancamagus pass and although it’s about 6000 feet less than some of the others I’ve crossed still a spectacular view and a bit chilly…well, not enough to gear up, but you can definitely feel it in the higher altitudes.

Made pretty good time going along the trail because what they thought would be a 2 hour trip, took just over an hour and a half if even that. Now that I knew how the road ran, ran it hard on the way back…needed the sensory overload so hitting it at 70 works for me, even in the curves. There were a couple of areas of construction and when came to a stop just went to the front of the line so I could get in front of all the slow folk. Talked to another couple on their bikes from the state of Washington and told them I left Seattle on Monday and they were surprised to hear that because they left Friday before and were only getting here, apparently they got caught in the rain a lot so I guess I rode fast enough to stay in front of it – that was until caught up to the aftermath last night. Ok, back to the house and they were asking what I thought of the ride and told them it was great and that they haven’t seen anything until they’ve seen it on a bike, well, can only take one at a time on the bike and now isn’t the time to hit it again cuz I need to relax and have a beer, play a little horseshoes, dinner, visit and what every other kind of relaxation I can do. At least I’ll be settling here for a few days so plenty of time to do a little relaxing. We’ll see though cuz the talk for tomorrow is instead of me riding is to climb the mountain, that bad boy in the pictures…give me a trail and I’ll see if the bike can get me there. New Hampshire Pictures.

Dalej,
Glad to see you have made it so far and still safe and sound. Just caught up with the last week's blog. There have been a number of places along the way that I have been both as a kid and an adult. Enjoy your downtime in NH.
Roger
