Indianapolis Indiana, July 2nd
Indianapolis Indiana and sitting in The Library Restaurant & Pub with a bunch of Brit’s and Aussie’s in town for the race, the F1 Grand Prix. They’re here to setup and tear down hospitality suites for a company from England…and yep, already asked about a job if they had the room cuz it’d give me a chance to travel the world. Oh well, none of them are management, you know the hiring/firing type, but maybe they can still put in a good word for me. They are a lot of fun, so I’ll party a little and get back to this later.
Ok, I’m back, but it’s already Monday, the 3rd sitting at the Harley shop to get some work done on my bike and it was a late night partying with those guys. I was having way too much fun and they wanted to hear the stories that it just got later than I thought when finally headed back to the room to call it a night. Oh well, I’ll have to catch up on that sleep when I get to New Hampshire and found out this morning that I lost another hour yesterday, that was when I entered Indiana and Eastern time…that makes 3 hours lost in a matter of a week since I left Seattle Monday morning…that’s why the rest will be well deserved…I long for Mountain time.
Got to start the day out with a free breakfast at the Hilton, again thanks to my nephew Bryon and I’m glad I did before hitting the road cuz I was definitely feeling a bit hungry, must have been that big bbq dinner the night before. Took a look at the map and figured I’d do more freeway since the states I was going to cross didn’t have any scenic roads along the way…that is according to the HOG touring handbook I’ve been using on this trip and was hoping to make it this far. Took some pictures along the way, but again, mostly Midwest which I’ve seen all my life that didn’t capture too many of them, but check out the pace car I saw along the way. An official pace car and I didn’t realize they drove those things from race to race, I thought they’d be hauled between races.
Anyway, was making another trip thru St Louis, remember was here 52 days ago and that could mean only one thing, there’s a reason that I’m passing thru again and it must be because it sunny and clear…hey, a trip to the top of the arch is in order. Ok, you got it, have to make a stop and see about doing it so I can get pictures that I couldn’t last time I was here and today, there’s a line to get in. That didn’t take too long getting thru security although something on me triggered the alarm….cleaned out my pockets and all, but they had me raise my pant legs to make sure nothing on my legs, great, do you know how hard it is to get my pant leg back down over my calves…oh well, I’m clean. Got in line to buy a ticket for the tram ride to the top and just kept seeing the available time going up and up, a two hour wait before I’d be able to get on that I asked the guy watching the line if there was any possible way to get thru sooner since I’m on the road traveling thru, was here 50 some days ago and hope to make Indianapolis before the nights over. Well, out comes the manager Darren and thanks to him and Allison, I have a ticket and am escorted to the front of the line, it never hurts to ask and once again, everything happens for a reason. Oh yea, almost forgot, but when I gave Allison my blog address, she said ‘You’re Where is Webby’? been following it for awhile that I finally get to meet you…now if you believe that, I’d be famous…well, give it time.
Had fun yakking it up with everyone in line and got to ride to the top with a family from Louisiana, remember have already been thru there. Those trams are awful small, but it was a good thing that their two girls were young and small. At the top and got some great pictures, well, I think they’ll be great, but won’t know until I download them on this computer, the screen barely works anymore and the view finder isn’t much help either…any bets whether it’ll survive the east coast? Talked with Ashley at the top since she assigns people to the tram going down and she said she has a lot of fun sitting at the top, well, I suppose when you get to meet a bunch of fun people and have a view like she has next to the window most of the day. Now I wonder how she knew I was from Wisconsin though cuz she set me up with a family from Milwaukee. They were in town for a baseball tournament that one of the boys was in, so with two big boys, mom, dad and me, the ride down was a bit crowded…not a problem though cuz had fun talking to more God’s country folk.
Time to hit the road and head east and just over the river, made it to a no helmet state so finally, my scalp will see a little sun. Made some good time pushing it along the freeway and ended up in Indiana in no time…besides that hour I lost just entering the state. Well headed downtown to see what was going on and found out that they just had a race in town and stopped at the Hilton and called Bryon to see if he could get me that family discount again, not tonight cuz the hotel said because of the race they only had five rooms left and were charging full price, $385, ok, I’m heading back toward the airport where I saw a Motel 6 and that was only $50, that’s much more reasonable. The race being in town must mean heading down to the track and the bars around the track would be the thing to do, right? – wrong. They don’t have bars surrounding the race track like you see around a baseball or football stadium so it was back to something close to the Motel 6 so The Library Restaurant & Pub was the place to stop…had already been here before heading down by the track and wasn’t sure I was dressed appropriately for the place, but like I told Navah, “I’ll be back”…well might be back. Ok, here I am, but wouldn’t you know it, they just closed the kitchen…fortunate for me though, I got to meet Navah’s mom, Mary and she’s the boss that they brought chef Jeff out to see what he might be able to do for me. Like I told him, just throw something together and I’ll be happy and he asked whether I preferred beef, fish or chicken and like I told him, beef and the last time I had a steak was Nebraska which I thought was known for their beef, but the piece of meat I had wasn’t that good. He throws together a Rib eye for me and I don’t know how he knew it was my favorite’s steak and how I like it done, but it was perfect…thanks, that really hit the spot, oh and Ben made sure I got my drinks as well. All in all, a great place to visit and that brings me to meeting the Brit’s and Aussie’s…great meeting you guys and definitely send me an email so when I make it to the island I can look you up and have a place to stay…maybe I should work on making this an around the world trip…ya never know. Ok, still another hour before my bike’ll be done so I better get something to eat so I have that out of the way before heading to the track and hitting the road. More adventures to come. Indy pictures.
