Bozeman MT, Aug 10th

Bozeman Montana and ended up here, the Montana Ale Works. I can always go for a nice micro brew and apparently this was the place to come, that was after the party they threw for me…how all these places are finding out when I’ll be in town is amazing. Ok, so not a party for me, but a party nonetheless, Rockin the Main. Let’s see if this party compares to the ones in Sturgis, Buffalo Chip to be exact, but that’ll take quite a bit of work. Spent a night with the Nemo group and I was so happy that I did because I’ve been going to Sturgis with them for years and they are a great group of people. You can see them all on the rock in the middle of the campground and it’s the same site we’ve had every year we’ve been to Nemo. Had breakfast with Terri and Steve and thanks much Steve for pickin up mine, they are a great couple and I am very fortunate having them as friends. Today is also Kathy’s birthday, and you don’t look a day over 39 – Ok, not going to say 29 cuz most women try to pull that, but not only does wisdom come with age, but I think beauty is right up there – Happy Birthday. Was invited to stay with the group for another night if not longer, but when I woke up and started thinking about how far I still have to travel and as long as the weather is on my side, might as well hit the road, so packed the bike and headed west. It was really tough leaving the group and thanks much to Terri and Steve for giving me an escort, out. They were heading the same way and I’ve always enjoyed riding with them, had an awesome ride to southern Wisconsin last year and look forward to many more rides with them. As I was hitting interstate, they wished me well and Steve told me to keep the rubber between me and the road and smile because I get to do an adventure that most just hope to do…I am smiling and enjoying every minute of this adventure.

You can see I hit the interstate hard when I got into Wyoming and I guess someone else noticed to. Was fortunate to just get off with warning since my driving privilege in Wisconsin hasn’t been reinstated…I think I mentioned that before, but he also checked my serial number on the bike to my registration to make sure someone hadn’t stole my bike – thanks. He did have me move the handle bars so he could see the number cuz like he said, doesn’t want to touch a bike with this kind of paint job, but hell, if you’d see some of the scratches I’ve gotten the last 28,000 miles a few more won’t hurt. Well, was back on the road and had to make a stop at a Harley dealer cuz I was once again running on fumes and needed a gas station. Can you believe there wasn’t one right there, but the ladies at the shop told me it was a couple miles up the road, that remember I’m running on fumes, but they gave me their cell phone number to call in case I didn’t make it. Well, made the call anyway even though I did make it, but sorry ladies, the bikes full so can’t take you with. Did make it to Montana and this time I wasn’t as fortunate making it to a station before running out. I was getting worried, but had almost half a tank when went thru Sheridan that I figured I’d find gas soon enough. Well, hit a number of exits that said no service and wouldn’t you know it, once I start seeing signs like that, the gas isn’t on my side. Did manage to wave down Rick and Phillip and although they had a gas can with, they didn’t have any gas, that was except for the gas in their bikes on the trailer. Well, Phillip drained the gas from the bikes and Rick checked the map and figured I’d have 30 miles to the next gas station, that I might be fortunate that Phillip got as much gas out of the bikes as he did. Was more than enough cuz did find gas a couple miles up the road and told them I’d wait for them to show so I could pay to refill their bikes, they’d have nothing to do with it, that hopefully I’ll run into them again on the road. Oh, and the other thing, guess where they’re going, yep, Alaska. Both got laid off recently that they decided to make lemons out of lemonade…remember Dave’s quote and visit some friends in Fairbanks and see about getting some work up north, you know north, the rush is on. Didn’t pass Rick and Phillip along the way, but what do you think the chances of me running into them at a gas station on the way is…well, pretty good cuz they came into the Billings station about 90 miles from where they helped me while I was on the phone making some connections…ok, now we’ll see how many other times our paths cross, but thanks much guys for going out of your way and giving me the gas outta your bikes.

You can see more of the Montana country side and tried getting pictures of the mountains in the distance, but can only do so much with a camera that doesn’t have a working lcd, no motorcycle mount and it’s a little tough trying to zoom with one hand, but tried my best. It is pretty cool when you see the mountains in the distance and it looks like a weather front moving in, but some will give you a picture of what I saw. Hey, check it out, did get some pictures of the same mountains I took on my route from Glacier National Park to Yellow Stone some 43 days ago, boy how time flies, but it was dejavu when I drove through Livingstone since I was just hear not that long ago. Thought about calling it a night there, but after hearing Bozeman was a college town and it puts me 20 some miles closer to Calgary, figured I have to go for it and glad that I did, not only was the drive nice, but remember the block party? Yep, got to listen to some good music, have some good food on the street and make my way to this place where I met Greg who is having the time of his life after just retiring and spending a couple of weeks fly fishing with his son and doing some hiking – like he said he’s blessed and remember me yesterday? – yep, we’re all blessed one way or the other. Greg did suggest a lake north of Banff I need to check out, Banff Canada that is, and its Lake O’Hare…isn’t that an airport in Chicago? – will have to see if I can make it there on my travels. Ok, time to sign off and see how the people from the block party, party around here. Canada here I come. Nothing but clean pics.
